When first asked to make the tactile card I wasn't sure how to go about it.
After a bit of thought I decided to make it as tactile as possible for the girl who was going to receive it but also to come up with a design that would appeal to sighted people.
This is the design we settled on.
Each letter of her name is made using a different texture, the card was lightly embossed and the pink gems make out her name in braille.
I sent the design in to 2 different card making magazines and won star prize in both of them
This along with the fact that the girl who received it was so pleased with it got me thinking that I would like other visually impaired people to get enjoyment from our cards.
I searched the internet and e.mailed various people who I thought could help me market them.
David from blink fundraising contacted me and was so helpful
He put them for sale in his online shop sightzone and also sent me a braille maker so we could add braille to our cards and put greetings inside
what the braille maker does is print off braille onto a clear piece of tape, this can then be stuck over the wording on the card so that a sighted person can read it and a visually impaired person can also use the braille to read.
We were delighted to get our first order through sightzone
in December
these are the cards that I made for her , we used tactile christmas decorations to form part of the card so that once the card was finished with the receipient had a decoration that could be used year after year.
The card that says xmas on it was for a man who had some sight , the insert inside was printed off using large text so that he could read it.
As with all our cards we can make braille cards to most themes and colour schemes
